Town and Gown celebrations in Hobart

Celebrations at Domain House kick off Hobart Town and Gown procession Festivities to welcome the families of UTAS graduands to graduation ceremonies kicked off this year’s Hobart Town and Gown procession. A Buddhist lion dance performed by members of the Jin-Gang Dhyana Buddhist group added colour, vibrancy and auspiciousness to the occasion. The lion is a symbol of Chinese culture. It promotes harmony and tolerance. Among those performing were recent graduates Frank Hsueh, Curtis and Edgar Ho. Frank graduated with a Bachelor of Business and Information Systems, Curtis graduated with a Bachelor of Science with First Class Honours, and Edgar graduated with a Bachelor of Arts with Honours. Their Patriarch Master, Master Wang, friends and family were present to see them graduate. They agreed that the experience of studying at UTAS was an enjoyable one. “UTAS has been very supportive. Tasmania is a good place to nurture new ideas,” Edgar said. “We would like to thank our lecturers, tutors, mentors and guiding teachers for their support and the love and care they have given us.” Both Curtis and Edgar will continue at UTAS next year to study a PhD while Frank has accepted a position with an accounting firm in Hobart. The UTAS Alumni hosted a reception for International graduands, and to welcome their families, many of whom have travelled long distances to attend graduations. Over 200 graduands took part in the procession from Domain House to Federation Concert Hall. With ppolice escort and band, graduands and staff made their way through the rose garden, along Campbell Street to Federation Concert Hall ready for the 3pm ceremony.
