Buddhaholy appeals to higher plane

THE 13-year-old Hobart boy caught in the middle of a heart-wrenching immigration case has had his temporary bridging visa extended.
Hutchins student Buddhaholy Siu was told last month he had to leave Australia by October 3.
But that date has now been extended until October 28 and may be pushed back further if his appeal application is assessed as being eligible.
Last week Buddhaholy wrote personal letters to Prime Minister Kevin Rudd, Immigration Minister Chris Evans and the assessors at the Migration Review Tribunal.
In the letters, he pleaded with the Federal Government to allow him to stay in Australia.
``The last hope I have is that you can listen attentively to my plea,'' he wrote.
``They want me to return to Canada, a place where I have no warm family.
``Besides being accepted by Australia, where else can I go in the world?
``I wish to plead for your protection.''
Buddhaholy has been denied a residency visa by the Department of Immigration and Citizenship.
He was born in Hobart but lost the chance to become an Australian citizen after he moved to Vancouver with his Canadian mother when he was nearly 10.
Months later he was removed from her care and Hobart Jin-Gang-Dhyana leader Master Wang Xin-De, who has known Buddhaholy since birth, became his legal guardian.
Master Wang brought Buddhaholy back to Tasmania in April, after he had been removed from the Canadian Jin-Gang-Dhyana by social workers who feared for his safety.
Buddhaholy has been denied an Australian child residential visa because Master Wang does not qualify as his natural, step or adoptive parent.
Hutchins principal Warwick Dean says the school is fully behind Buddhaholy's quest to stay in Australia.
``There has been overwhelming support for Buddhaholy from students and staff at the school,'' Mr Dean said. ``The school continues to seek avenues of continuing support for his application to stay in Tasmania.''
