Eric Hutchinson MP
Speech by
Representative of the Prime Minister of Australia
Eric Hutchinson MP
At Chinese Han Transmission Esotericism Academy
Mid-Autumn Multicultural Festival
At Hobart Town Hall
7th September, 2014
Thank you very much, Master Wang.
Eric Hutchinson is my name, I am Federal Member for Lyons and I am here representing the Prime Minister of Australia, Mr. Tony Abbott.
And some of you may be aware that he has recently been in India, and also more recently in Malaysia, he is returning to Australia today.
Aunty Eva Richardson, acknowledgements to you, also my parliamentary colleagues, in particular, Andrew Wilkie, Member of Denison, members of State Parliament, Elise Archer, Lara Giddings and also Adriana Taylor, welcome all, and local government representatives here today.
Listening to Master Wang, and indeed, it is a real pleasure to be here today, I like to consider myself somewhat of a pragmatist that likes to deal in facts, and what we perceive at least to be reality in the world that we live in.
But some of the comments that you made in respect of the generations and the links over many connections, over many generations through reincarnations and other things, it makes you consider things that happen in our lives that are unexplainable, things that happen from time to time that are unexplainable, be it an old friend that we haven’t seen for many years and all of a sudden that day or the day after for some unknown reason, we make connection again, and these things happen and they are I find quite intreading, and you’ve got maybe an explanation there that is indeed worth considering.
It is my pleasure though, to read a message from Prime Minister:
A message from the Prime Minister
For the 2014 Mid-Autumn Multicultural Celebration
Indeed, I am pleased to provide this message for the 2014 Mid-Autumn Multicultural Celebration.
The traditional Chinese Mid-Autumn Festival is a time for friends and family to come together in celebration of a bountiful harvest and full moon. This is also a time to acknowledge the significant contribution Australians of Asian heritage have made to our country.
Since 1788, Australia has been an immigrant society. Successive waves of newcomers eager for a better life have enriched our culture and added a heroic dimension to our national story.
As a nation, we have found unity in our diversity, and respect in our differences. Together, we have built a modern nation on the idea that anyone can get ahead, provided they are prepared to have a go.
I congratulate all who have made this event possible, and I wish everybody an enjoyable Mid-Autumn Multicultural Celebration.
The Honourable Tony Abbott MP
The Honourable Tony Abbott MP
Prime Minister of Australia
So, thank you very much, in particular Master Wang, thank you very much for the invitation. It’s really privileged for me to be here today.
I wish everybody (and fathers in particular, as Aunty Eva has said) a happy father’s day!
Thank you.
