As parliamentary secretary responsible for the Multicultural affairs and Social Services, I’m delighted to be here this evening representing the Prime Minister of Australia and Mr. Morrison of the Australian government. The Prime Minister has asked me to pass on his best wishes and read the following message on his behalf.

CHINESE NEW YEAR 2015

Chinese New Year is a time to gather with family and friends, enjoy good food and to anticipate and celebrate the year ahead.
中國新年是一個親朋聚首、享受佳餚、期盼慶賀來年的時刻。
As we welcome the Year of the Ram, it is an opportunity to acknowledge the achievements of the past twelve months, and to look forward to a year of happiness and prosperity.
在喜迎羊年的同時，我們亦藉此機會肯去肯定過去十二個月的成就，以及期盼新的一年歡樂與繁榮。
The Ram symbolises success achieved through quiet fortitude.
羊，象徵著從平靜、堅忍、剛毅中實現成就。
This is true of the Australian-Chinese community which contributes so much to our national life.
這特質在對我們國民生活貢獻良多的澳洲華人社團中充分體現
China has been significant to Australia almost from our very beginning as a settled country.
中國從澳洲一開始安定下來時就對澳洲有重大的貢獻。
Thousands of Chinese joined the gold rushes from the 1850s. There were Chinese ANZACs at Gallipoli and on the Western Front. Today, China is our greatest trading partner, and our largest source of migrants and international students.
成千上萬的中國人參與1850年代的淘金熱，在加利波利和西部前線有中國人參與澳紐軍團。今天，中國是我們最大的貿易夥伴，我們最大的移民人口以及國際學生來源。
In every part of our national life, Australians of Chinese ancestry have helped to build our modern nation.

As President Xi said during his most recent visit here: “if you want to walk fast, walk alone” but “if you want to walk far, walk together”.

Last year, our two countries concluded the historic China-Australia Free Trade Agreement.
上年，我們兩國達成了歷史性的〝中澳自由貿易協定〞。
This Agreement with the world’s second largest economy will provide more jobs, more growth and more investment in our country.
這個與世界第二大經濟體系的協議，將對我們國家提供更多的就業機會、更多的增長以及更多的投資。
The potential for Australia’s relationship with China to grow and prosper has never been greater, in no small part due to the contribution of the Australian-Chinese community.
澳大利亞與中國的關系，以發展和繁榮的潛力來說，是從所未有的如此巨大，很大部份原因是澳大利亞華人社團的貢獻。
I wish all who celebrate Chinese New Year good health and prosperity for the coming year.

As a daughter of [immigrant] myself, I understand the importance to celebrate the cultural heritage and significant dates and recognize the joy that this [bring] in sharing with other people and helping their understanding to grow.
我自己作為移民家庭的女兒，我明白到慶祝文化遺產以及重大日子的重要性，以及意識到與別人分享的快樂和幫助他們的認識增長。
Australia culture diversity is a source of great social economic strength and the contribution of [migration] family spending many generations has helped to create Australia we enjoy today. A month from today, we will celebrate our multi-cultural country with an event around the country to Harmony Day on 21 March. Just like Harmony Day, Chinese New Year is now a very important event of the Australian calendar and it is the time we share this wonderful heritage, its richness and its color.
澳洲文化多樣化是我們強大社會、經濟力量的來源，是移民家庭歷代以來幫助建立我們現在享受的澳大利亞。一個月後的今天，於3月21日，我們將會有一個全國性的活動，慶祝我們多元文化國家的〝和諧日〞。一如〝和諧日〞，中國新年現在是在澳洲的日曆裏一個非常重要的事件，這是我們一起分享這個優秀遺產、她的豐富性以及她的多采多姿的時刻。
As well as being the time of celebration, Chinese New Year is a time to also reflect on its positive impact the Chinese-Australian has made to our nation; you have made a remarkable contribution to every sphere of our national lives, in government, in medicine, in business, in the arts, and far beyond. We value as a nation your contribution and we have looked to the treasure the diversity that we well being and make us Australia a better place.
在慶祝的同時，中國新年也是反映澳大利亞華僑對我們國家正面的影響的時候，您對我們國民生活的各個領域：政府、醫藥、商業、藝術，並遠遠超出於這些範圍，作出了不起的貢獻。作為一個國家，我們重視您的貢獻，我們看到了寶藏，看到它的多樣性，看到我們的福祉，它令我們澳大利亞成為一個更好的地方。
